Weekend Update

Happy Monday!

My sweet husband was on the road all last week, and finally came home on Friday. Welcome home, Daddy! I picked him up, and then we went to get the kids. The Agent thought it would be funny to hide in the back of the car and then jump out  and scare the kids once they got into the car when I picked them up from school. It's too dark to see the video, but this is the audio. Little punk kids! They weren't scared at all! I told them if there's ever a guy hiding in the back of our car, you need to scream your head off!

This is not working because I suck at uploading video.

We went home and watched Maleficent while The Agent slept on the couch. I was a little worried that it would be too violent for the kids, but they seemed fine. They loved the idea that the villain is actually the hero. I told them that there's always two sides to a story.

On Saturday, we went out to breakfast and then ran a bunch of errands. One of the errands was to replace the batteries in our watches. Neither one of us had worn our watches for years because the batteries had been dead. I don't think The Agent has worn his dress watch since before Bug was born, and it's probably been almost as long for me. Some of  us had lost a bit of weight since we had last worn them:

And some of us  had perhaps gained a few pounds:

The Agent has now added a dress watch to his Christmas list.

On Sunday, Bug and I went shopping. We're having family photos taken next weekend and I wanted us all to color coordinate. We're going with blues and oranges-- I hope they look ok! One of these photos will be our Christmas card next month!

While the girls were shopping, the boys stayed home and put up these shelves for me:

The Agent had been smoking ribs all day, so we enjoyed delicious ribs for dinner. Then we sent the kids to bed and watched Walking Dead. We love that show-- it's so good! Does anyone else watch it?What's going to happen to Beth? Is Daryl going to save her? Is there a love triangle between Daryl, Beth, and Carol? That's my favorite story line!

Pinterest or Pintrest?

I am an avid reader, and I always have been. But, as a reader, my pronunciation sometimes leaves something to be desired. For example:

  • I pronounced "paradigm" wrong for years! To this day, when I read it in a book,  I say para-dig-um in my head. A couple of years ago, I had to read something out loud to a group at work, and I had to make a conscious effort to say the word correctly.
  • I didn't realize that the T in "apostles" was silent until about a week ago. The Agent was kind enough to point this out to me. While laughing.
  • And "Pinterest." But I believe this up for debate.

The other day, I was eating lunch with a group of girls, and one of them asked how I came up with the idea for my Halloween costume. "I can't take credit for it," I answered. "I saw the idea on Pinterest." I say Pinterest like it has three syllables: pin-ter-rest.

"Is it Pin-ter-est or Pin-trest?" a girl asked.

"Thank you!" another girl said, like she had been dying to tell me for months that I had been saying it wrong.

"I say pin-trest," a third girl  said.

I shrugged my shoulders. It's the whole potato/potato debate. And since I did not come up with Pinterest and I've never heard anyone of authority say it out loud, I really can't be sure how it's pronounced.

Except there are three syllables!

How do you pronounce "Pinterest?" :) I've always wondered.....not sure, but I was told, 2 syllables....[I guess, like Interest, just with a P].....

The comment that was under this picture says: "How do you pronounce 'Pinterest?' :) I've always wondered.....not sure, but I was told, 2 syllables....[I guess, like Interest, just with a P]....."

Ummm... I pronounce "interest" with three syllables, too! Am I pronouncing that wrong, too?

How do you say it? Is it Pinterest or Pintrest?

The Day of No No's

One Saturday a few weeks ago, the kids and I had a day off with no plans.

BK woke up first. "Can I watch cartoons?" he asked.

"Sure," I answer. "Would you like some cereal for breakfast?"

"Yes, please. Can I eat it at the coffee table while I watch tv?"

"Yes, you may."

A few minutes later, Bug came downstairs. She does not care much for cereal. She munched on an apple, and then asked if she could have a Cup o' Noodles for breakfast.

For first thought was no, that's disgusting. But then I thought, what does it REALLY hurt? I would give it to her for lunch, so why can't she have it for breakfast?

"Yes, you may have Cup o' Noodles for breakfast."

Both children were happy in the morning.

"OK, guys. Daddy's at work all day, but we have no plans. What should we do today?"

"Let's go to the park!" BK yelled.

"OK, that sounds like a good idea," I answered. "How about we watch cartoons until like 9, then go to the grocery store and buy some food, and then have a picnic in the park?"

They both liked this idea. "Can I bring my scooter?" BK asked.

"Yes, you may."

Then I thought, look at how happy they are. They are in such good moods. Is it because I've said yes to every request this morning, instead of saying no? What if I went the whole day without saying no?

Challenge, accepted.

We went to the grocery store, then packed up a picnic to eat in the park. We ate and then played for about an hour, then walked home. "What should we do now?"

"Can we play with the helicopter?" Bug asked.

Actually, we could NOT play with the remote control helicopter. It's really The Agent's toy, and I have no idea how it works. Plus, I could see that BK was getting tired and needed to rest. But how to say no without actually saying no? "How about this? Let's watch a movie we haven't seen in a long time... is that a good idea?"

They both agreed that this was a good idea.

By the time The Lego Movie was over, it was time to start dinner. "Daddy's going to be home soon, and we need to get dinner started. Let's make spaghetti."

"Can I help?" Bug asked.

"Yes, you may."

So we spent the late afternoon making spaghetti while BK was happily coloring. The Agent came home to both kids in a good mood, and Mommy hadn't started drinking yet.

A good day for all.

The return of weekend updates!

Hello, my friends! I missed you!

Man, it's always such an accomplishment when I finish the 31 days series, but it's so exhausting, and I fall so far behind in everything going on in  the blog world. I have like a zillion bloglovin' blogs to read. And I have a few things to share with you.... but first, let's have a weekend update!

Friday was Halloween. The kids are only allowed  to dress up at school if they're dressed like a book character, and I'm not about to buy two costumes, so sometimes we have to get a little creative. Bug was a pirate and BK was Captain America. Cuteness.

I was pretty cute, too. Check it:

I was part of a group costume. It might be a little hard to figure out when you're just looking at me, so here's a pic with my homies:

Do you get it now? We won second place in the costume contest!

You know, we're in the middle of a drought, it hasn't rained in months. So of course it would HAVE to rain on Halloween. We went to ten houses before we called it a night. But the kids still brought in a good haul:

All that candy, and not a single Butterfinger. Makes Mama sad...

On Saturday, we stayed home all day. It was my intention to clean house all day, but I'm looking around my house now as I write this, and there's still utter chaos, so I guess that didn't happen. And there's CERTAINLY no photographic evidence of my messy house!

On Sunday, I felt the urge to spend money, so I bought a few fall decorations:

I bought the chalkboard and the welcome sign.... and yes, that's a cartoon drawing of me and The Agent. We got that in Vegas when we were still dating.

When we got home, I sent the kids upstairs to watch a movie so I could watch the Raiders game and give myself a manicure:

I have been a fan of Jamberry lately.... but these are a different brand. I can tell the difference already, and I don't think these will even last a week. I'm sorry I strayed, Jamberry. I placed my order today. Please come soon!

All in all, a nice relaxing weekend!
