Weekend Update-- still alive, but barely

Hi.

I'm still here.

I was on my death bed for awhile, but I think I might make it.

Actually, it was kinda nice. I was in bed every night by 7:30 and read a bunch. I've read three books so far in May alone.

BK  has been beyond naughty lately. I mean BEYOND. And just when we think it might have finally sunk in that maybe he's finally figuring it out, you know, that it's good to be good, then he big fat does something so naughty that it boggles my mind. Like he peed in his toy box at some point last week, although it took until Friday for us to find out where the smell was coming from. When we asked why he did it, he said it was because he was mad at us. What???? And that's your reaction?

We tossed all those toys. I mean, they had been sitting in pee for several days! SO gross. I'm not sure why he thought this would be a punishment for us, but I know that young children like to have control, and this was certainly a situation that he had control over!

It's 8:30 pm on Sunday as I write this and I am absolutely ready for bed, so here's some events from the weekend in pictures:

gunslingers

saloon girls
feeding goats (and sheep and a llama)

daddy-son baseball pictures

This picture cracks me up! Look how hairy his face is! The Agent told him that he needed to start shaving soon, and BK got the biggest grin on his face! He's only 5!

Weekend Update-- Mother's Day!

Every weekend leaves me feeling exhausted. I seriously need a vacation.

On Friday, The Agent and I took the day off to go to a funeral. Is it wrong to say this was a wonderful day off? The deceased was a distant relative of The Agent's, but it was nice to see all of his cousins and to spend the day reminiscing. The Agent isn't particularly close with his family, so it's always nice to get that glimpse into his past.

On Saturday, I ran my butt all over town. Target, Costco, Wal Mart... and that was before noon. And then we had baseball. BK had an AWESOME game! He played catcher, short stop, and first base. He is an EXCELLENT first base man. And his hitting off the tee is fantastic. #MakeMamaSomeMoneyInThePros

After baseball, I went out shopping again, this time to the malls (our city has two of them, and I went to both) and then back to Target. I got all our errands ran, I hit my 10000 step for the day, and I rewarded myself with a s'more frap at Starbucks. No, I don't know why I need to lose 30 pounds.

I was gone so long that as soon as I got home and pulled into the garage, my cat jumped up on the roof of the car. Silly cat... like that's going to keep me home.

Sunday was Mother's Day! I opened up this beauty:

...with an Amazon gift card inside! Reading material!

Then we went to spend the day with my dad and stepmother. A beautiful Sunday fun day!

Happy Mother's Day!

The Graduation Dance

8th grade was a LONG time ago-- I was the 8th grade class of 1988. And in 8th grade, I had a major crush on Donald Davis. I'm not sure why-- he wasn't particularly cute. But he was nice and he was taller than I was, so that was a big plus in my book.

In May, about a month before 8th grade graduation, Donald called me, and asked me to be his date to the 8th grade graduation dance. What the WHAT? He wants to go out? On a date? With Me?Awesome! I said yes, and reveled in my certainty that I would one day be called Mrs. Donald Davis.

The next day at school, my girlfriend Janet bounced up to me. "Soooo..... did Donald Davis ask you out?"

My perma-grin probably gave me away. Good news really gets around!
"You know, that happened because of me," she said.

Janet went on to explain that Donald had called her earlier in the evening to ask her to the dance. She declined, but said, "Why don't you ask Lovely? I hear she likes you."

That wiped the perma-grin off of my face a bit. I didn't really want to be sloppy seconds. But oh well! I had a date!

Except NONE of my other friends had dates. They were all going to the dance together, a big girlfest.  And I was going to be stuck with Donald.... who was starting to really look like a nerd, now that I've opened my eyes. And what if he expected me to DANCE with him? Then I would be known as the girl who danced with Donald Davis! Unacceptable!

I was beginning to dread 8th grade graduation.

Graduation day arrived. I thought I looked great in my dress from Gunne Sax.... and then I saw  Donald in a white tuxedo. With tails.

I was mortified. All the other boys were wearing sports jackets and ties.... no one else was in a tux.

I couldn't go to the dance with him.

I told him I wasn't feeling well, and I convinced him to call him mom to drive me home.

Two days later, there was a knock on my door. It was Donald, of course. With a letter:

Dear Lovely,
How are you? I'm fine. I was just watching the movie Some Kind of Wonderful and I started thinking of you. Right then, at that moment, I started thinking about how I wanted to hold you in my arms forever, and I still do.
Well, now you know how I feel about you, but I still don't know how you feel about me. If it's not too much trouble, do you think you could let me know? Call me at 555-1234. Thanks!
Love you always, Donald

I never called..... But I did write him a return letter:

Dear Donald,
I have given it a lot of thought, and I've come to the conclusion that you are a nerd. Have a nice summer!
~Lovely

That was our last conversation for the next 6 years (we became friends again briefly after high school.... but that's another story!)

Weekend Update: Oink, Oink

I feel like time has been going by way too fast, and I'm helpless to stop it. Our weeks are BUSY. There's baseball and piano, and I'm trying to figure out a way to squeeze swimming in there, too. My house is constantly in a state of disaster, and I am never rested. I guess that's what it's like to be a working mom with two busy kids!

On Friday, we really did nothing. We ate pizza and watched movies, and I started my summer reading challenge by reading Mr. Mercedes, by Stephen King. It was a very low key evening.

One Saturday, we played baseball, again. It was HOT! We only have three more weeks of games, and thank goodness for that, because the kids are about done standing out in the hot sun, waiting for a ball that MIGHT be hit towards them. Of course, BK was awesome. Here's a video of him hitting the ball. He doesn't hit it until about 20 seconds in, so you have time to refill your coffee or grab a doughnut first. Also, you might want to turn your sound  down, since a certain mama screams her fool head off after he hit the ball:

On Sunday, we went to our town's biannual street faire. Downtown is blocked off, and basically the whole town comes out and walks the streets, which are filled with vendors selling crafts, antiques,  and food (and there's quite a few people there selling useless junk there, too!). The high point for the kids was when we let them get inside this giant inflatable balls and they got to play in a pool of water:

6 months ago, we bought our book case there, which I LOVE. This year, there wasn't anything there that I had to have, but The Agent walked away with this beauty:

This pig's got his eye on you

It's now in the backyard, guarding over The Agent's many grills. Whatever. As long as it's not in my house.

Oink, oink

Oh, and I finished my book! It helped that it was really good, so I ripped through it. Next I'm going to read Darkness of Light, by Stacey Marie Brown. I know absolutely NOTHING about this book or the author, so I make no promises about my ability to read it as fast!
